This is the question that Professor Raymond Winbush, Director of the Institute for Urban research at Morgan State University will seek to answer when he visits Trinidad, to deliver a free public lecture on Sunday 15th June, at the Central Bank Auditorium.
The renowned scholar who has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, CBS and BET is best known for his authorship of The Warrior Method. This book and the Warrior Institute which it spawned in Baltimore have touched countless lives including that of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith who donated a substantial amount through their foundation in 2004 to help Dr. Winbush teach his unique program for raising healthy black boys in a racist society to parents, teachers and community activists.
Dr. Winbush is also the author of Belinda’s Petition and Should America Pay? both of which have contributed to the movement for reparatory justice, soon to be, according to Dr. Hillary Beckles, the greatest political movement of the 21st century.
This event will launch the annual Kwame Ture Memorial Lecture Series which is part of the National Emancipation Commemoration in Trinidad and Tobago. Several distinguished speakers have graced this platform in the past including Kwame Ture himself.
The lecture promises to be an inspirational experience for those in attendance.
Start time is 5 p.m.
Following this lecture, there would be a series of lectures leading up to Emancipation Day 2014.
