The Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village was formally opened by Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts this morning.
With libations by Elder Eintou Pearl Springer, performances from Belmont Freetown Folk Performing Arts Company and Performing Poet – Derron Sandy, the Junior Bisnath Moko Jumbies and the Nigerian drumming ensemble heralded the opening of the Village.
Senator the Honourable Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts (at centre) was joined by Members of the Emancipation Support Committee Executive – Dr. Asha Kambon, Khafra Kambon, and Executive Director – Zakiya Uzoma Wadada along with Members of the Diplomatic Corps. Ambassador of Columbia – Martha Cecilia Pinilla Perdomo; Minister Joseph Udo Oyi, High Commission of Nigeria; Ms. Ester Gomo, Head of Chancery, High Commission of Nigeria; Victor Hugo Morales Melendez, Ambassador – Embassy of Mexico in Trinidad and Tobago; Alvaro Sanchez Cordero, Ambassador – Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Trinidad and Tobago.
