The Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village

The Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village is the home of the Pan African Celebrations commemorating Emancipation. Following the blessing of the ground on Sunday 23rd July at 6pm, the Queen’s Park Savannah transforms into a hive of activity that highlights the talents of Trinidad and Tobago through music, art, and craft as well a historic display of ancestral ties with the Continent.

Following Shikamoo Lord Relator, tribute will be made to the late Mark Cunningham, a formidable contributor to the Rapso artform, on Saturday 29th July.   Also on that day, local reggae artiste Marlon Asher will lead the cast at the Unity Reggae Concert.

On Sunday 30th July, powerhouse vocalist – Kay Alleyne will headline Jazz at Sunset at 6pm. At 7pm, it will be the steelbands’ turn in the spotlight at Pan by Moonlight at 7pm.

Join us for the widest collection of African-themed products, including clothing, jewelry, beauty products, art, herbal products and books.  Your palette will be delighted by food from continental Africa – Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana – as well as dishes, drinks and sweets indigenous to Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean.

There is a continuous schedule of cultural and educational activities during opening hours, from daily seminars and workshops, including one day devoted to children (Youth Day), as well as community expressions of drumming, dance and chantuelles.

The Lidj Yasu Omowale Emancipation Village opens at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Friday 28th July until Tuesday 1st August.   Entrance after 4pm is $40, children are FREE.  For the full schedule of events, visit – https://emancipationtt.com/
