A brilliant and committed warrior has made his transition. The Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago expresses its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of our dearest brother Ifoma Soyinka, one of the longest serving members of the Executive Board of the Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago.
Ifoma a quiet, skilled manager, lawyer, committed to the cause of social and racial justice, was a devoted husband to his wife, Angela who made her transition before him and a loving father to his two sons, Jerome and Nkechi.
He gave his youth, to the development and successes of the Black Power Movement through the National Joint Action Committee, in those turbulent years of the 60’s and early 70’s, like many of the brothers and sisters with whom he later worked in the ESCTT.
Our Poet Laureate, Dr. Eintou Pearl Springer said of Ifoma and his transition:
“Always able to soothe the anxious. Generous, he gave unstintingly. He was loyal to his organisation and to the cause of the humanity of African people.” She exhorts “Let us speak freely of our love to those we cherish, while still they move amongst us. Ifoma, your time with us enriched the oft time painful rigours of this life. The joy you brought, the pain you eased will cause our hearts to smile even as tears flow freely”.
May his ancestors greet him warmly.
